We feel so fortunate we had the opportunity to collaborate with Annemieke from Underground Sundae on some shoe bling! We asked her a few questions about herself and her label…
How did you get started with Jewellery and also Underground Sundae as a label?
“I studied jewellery at art school in Dunedin. US started small and organically – from my parent’s garage lol. I was making pieces for friends and my final year collection was picked up at a local store and after a really good response it grew from there!”
Where does the name come from?
“Actually, Underground Sundae comes from a Warhol short film. It’s supposed to be a bit banal and the two opposing words relate to the way in which I approach jewellery and life. The act of collaboration has now become an integral part of label and so therefore, US.”
We love the way you combine different metals and stones – what are some of your favourite combinations/textures/elements?
“I don’t believe in the hierarchy of materials; mixing precious with non-precious, found objects, incorporating unexpected finishes and techniques.”
What inspires you in life and work?
“I find that through the process of making meaning is created.”
Do you have any routines or daily rituals?
“If society would allow it and money permitted – oysters and champagne whilst scrolling through co-star.”
